The Kurdistan Monitor monthly report tracks all conflict, war and occupation related crimes committed by all present forces in Rojava (Syria), Bakur (Turkey), Rojhelat (Iran) and Bashur (Autonomous Region of Kurdistan;Northern Iraq).
Kurdistan Monitor is an independent live-monitoring project created to provide unbiased, reliable and free information for everybody. We guarantee that we work independently and have no affiliations to any other parties.

All data used in this report have been gathered by an anonymous network of local and independent activists:

Rojava:
Kurdistanmonitor in Rojava has counted:

  • 3 attacks on the Al Omar Oil field and the US Air Base in Deir Ezzor
  • 9 heavy artillery attacks on positions of the SDF by the Turkish army and the occupying Turkish led mercenaries.
  • 1 terroristic attack with several casualties

The attacks carried out against the Al-Omar oil field and the US air base close by in Deir Ezzor have only caused very minor damages to the infrastructure. Kurdistan Monitor has tracked, that the first attack has been launched on the 4th of July at approximately 20:45 MEZ. The attackers have used GRAD rockets which were launched from a GRAD platform across the Euphrates river in territory held by the NDF and the Hashd al Shaabi under direct control of the IRGC (Iran) .
A SDF Frontline Operation Base nearby has also been hit in the same attack. No casualties have been reported.
The second attack against the US air base in Deirezzor has been launched on the 7th of July at approximately 11:30 MEZ. The attackers have used drones for their attack which have been quickly destroyed by the US Anti Air&Drone attack measures around the base. The US has also quickly responded by sending out reconnaissance aircraft to track the attackers down.
The attack was again launched from territories held by the NDF and Hashd al Shaabi across the Euphrates river.
The third attack against the US air base in Deirezzor has been carried out on the 10th of July at approximately 23:15 MEZ. The attacker has launched a single mortar at the US base causing no damages. The US command quickly deployed aircrafts to hunt the attacker down with no further infromation. Unlike the previous two attacks, this attack has been launched from the SDF held Deirezzor territories which leads to the assumption that the attacker wasn’t part of the Iran commanded Hashd Al Shaabi but a surviving IS fighter from hideout in the desert of Deirezzor.

Kurdistan Monitor notes that the first and second attack against the US air base in Deirezzor have been accompanied by a well-coordinated misinformation campaign by several Iranian media outlets. These media outlets have spammed social media channels on Facebook, Telegram and Twitter with made-up strategic misinformation to cause confusion and panic among locals.
Minutes after the attack, these media outlets have in both cases reported that the US base in Deirezzor has been completely wiped out by “several Missile barrages” with numbers ranging from 20 GRAD missiles to 400. This misinformation has been quickly picked up by western media outlets without them fact checking it beforehand.

The continuous heavy-artillery campaign by the Turkish army and the occupying militias against the SDF continues as usual.
Kurdistan Monitor has tracked 9 heavy shellings by the Turkish army and their militias on positions of the SDF and villages along the frontline. Kurdistanmonitor would like to highlight that minor shelling and shooting against positions of the SDF by the Turkish state and the occupying militias is a daily occurrence.
The shelling usually targets positions of the MMC around Manbij, positions of the YPG around Tal Rifaat and the whole frontline held by the SDF near Serekaniye/Ras al Ain and Gire Spi/Tal Abyad
No civillians and SDF soldiers have been killed by the shellings throughout July.

Throughout July the Afrin Liberation Forces have attacked the occupying Turkish militias in Afrin several times with the most successful attack happening on the 24th of July at approximately 21:00 MEZ. An ATGM squad of the HRE has ambushed a Turkish convoy near Al-Bab city and successfully neutralized several vehicles. The attack has wounded and/or killed at least 10 turkish soldiers. This attacked provoked a Turkish reaction where the Turkish artillery randomly shelled kurdish villages and positions of the Assad-Regime along the Tal Rifaat frontline. Several SAA/NDF soldiers have been killed.

On the 25th of July the Assad-Regime responded to these attacks by launching an uncoordinated barrage of missiles into the Kurdish city of Afrin which is under the occupation of the Turkish state and their militias. Several civilians have been killed and wounded.

Bashur:
Kurdistan Monitor in Bashur has counted:

  • 6 cases of infighting between Kurdish actors and groups
  • 1 case of attacks on Kurdish actors by foreign powers
  • 1 political dispute

On the 5th of July at approximately 10:00 MEZ the HPG (military wing of the PKK) launched multiple assaults against the occupying Turkish army across Qandil. This assault has killed at least 3 turkish special forces soldiers and marks the beginning of a resistance campaign by the HPG throughout all of July.

On the 6th of July at approximately 22:40 MEZ the capital of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan, Hawler (Erbil) has been struck by a drone attack against the military section of the Hawler/Erbil international Airport. The attack has only caused minor damages to the infrastructure.

On the 13th of July at approximately 19:00 MEZ in Slemani the Asayish under the command of Sheikh Jafaar has stormed a newly established media outlet called Iplus owned by PUKs co-leader Lahur Talabani. After successfully seizing this media outlet, the Asayish under the command of Sheikh Jafaar begun to storm and seize several other media outlets and companies owned by Lahur Talabani. This seize of Lahur Talabanis possession marks the beginning of a coup by Bafel Talabani to become the sole ruler of the PUK. On the 17th of July Bafel Talabani confirms the coup and announces his sole leadership of the PUK.
The PUK and Lahur Talabani haven’t accepted this decision yet.
